Sheila Wilt, Paralegal
Sheila Wilt is an experienced paralegal and an integral member of the Kentucky-based team of CPW Law. Prior to coming on board, Sheila sat for the LSATs, thinking she would become an attorney herself. What she discovered was that she preferred the “behind the scenes” work that goes into building a successful case for a client in need. Out of her 23 years in litigation support, Sheila has dedicated 19 of them to helping victims of medical malpractice and personal injury. She graduated from Morehead State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Paralegal Studies and minor in Business Administration.
Sheila has worked as a paralegal at some of Louisville’s preeminent defense firms: just like the firm’s founders, she understands exactly how a defense team can build a case against a client, and what kinds of details a defense attorney will look for to discredit a case, so she puts her skills and experience to work to anticipate problems before they arise.
At CPW Law, her roles are varied and complex. Her duties have included interviewing of witnesses, legal research, case analysis, litigation support, trial prep and trial video aid. Sheila provides constant support to our clients, offering a shoulder to lean on and answering questions honestly and with compassion. Over the years, she has developed long-term relationships with our clients.
Driven by a passion for the work
Sheila readily and openly admits that she loves what she does, and that her passion for her work is what drives her to do whatever is in her power to help the families of her clients. She comes from a family of coal miners, so the value and necessity of hard work has been instilled in her since she was a young girl. As the right hand of the attorneys, Sheila’s work serves to better prepare the team to make a strong case for clients, and to better prepare the clients for what comes next. She knows that one missed deadline can hurt a victim’s case, and she puts her superior organizational skills to work to help her team be the best they can be.
But it isn’t all details and deadlines. Because of what she does, Sheila is in constant contact with the firm’s clients. She celebrates their joys and offers a sympathetic shoulder to cry on when they are feeling anxious or overwhelmed. Her genuine desire to help people is felt in everything that she does.
Life outside of the office
When she is not working, Sheila and her husband, Ron, spend as much time as they can in the great outdoors. She is an avid fisher and hunter; if you have any doubt of her skills, you can check out the 8-point trophy in her office. She has instilled this love of nature in her pride and joy, her 11-year-old son. Whether it’s time spent exploring the outdoors or listening to music together, being with him is Sheila’s favorite thing in the world to do.
